You can't just open an ad account and start spending. Platform political verification. Identity confirmation. Paid-for-by disclaimers. Public ad disclosure. Voter targeting inside Canadian privacy law. Get any of it wrong and your ads don't run while your opponent's do.
And clearing the rules is the easy part. You still have to make a voter stop scrolling, remember a name they've seen on four hundred lawn signs, and choose your candidate, inside a fixed constituency, against a fixed deadline, while the other side spends against you.
